You
-----
You held out your hand
to a squirrel in the park,
and its palm touched yours
as it took the food you offered.
For a moment,
a gap closed in;
you were wild
and it civilized itself.
In that moment,
you realized:
You were not so different.
Tomorrow,
you will step further into life
and delicately hold out your fingertip,
with one grain of sugar balanced on it.
What will you realize, this time,
when the gap closes in,
and
an ant
comes to take it?
