Nursing from the info-breast, we cling to wire mother.
When she feeds our mind, we need
nothing from the outside.
Digital nourishment we choose, and not an effigy
of the warmth and comforting, psychologists would claim we need.
We are a hive, tied mind to mind.
We gaze into her enclosed skies,
and see the whole is greater than the sum of its components.
Are we more than human? Homo-Gestalt, or just feral?
Are we more than human? Are we are more when we are more?
We are a world in isolation, although never lonely,
for we are One united in perception of the Virtual - .
Advancing towards regression we’ll assume position fetal,
not craving things material, we’re ready to evolve.
We are a world in isolation, although never lonely,
for we are One united in perception of the Virtual - .

not craving things material, we’re ready to evolve.

Re: wire mother
Thu, October 27, 2005 - 8:08 AMI enjoyed what I perceived to be sarcasm in this poem. The only thing that stands out that I think could be improved upon is some of the word orders, which seem somewhat contrived.
i.e. "position fetal", or placing "we choose" after the choice.
I guess it seems too much like Yoda speech to me. I liked the ideas presented, however, especially that of Homo-Gestalt. -

Tue, November 1, 2005 - 12:23 AMThanks for noticing the word order.
The voice is forced synthetic, rather than natural. Man and machine.
"Join the hive, and be as one." The original draft contained the subtitle: "A ludite's worst case senario."
Yoda? [ Lol ] Maybe Lucus was in the ol' subconscious at the time.
My verse tends to lean more towards the prism rather than the lense. In this song, I attempted to juxtapose a number of things that hit my head while cramming for both sociology and basic psychology exams circa 1992. I also incorporated a nod to science fiction great, Theodore Sturgeon. Hence: "Homo Gestalt" a bastard term used to describe a collection of gifted characters in his Immortal novel: MORE THAN HUMAN. -

Tue, November 1, 2005 - 11:42 AMWell, as far as collectives go, I'm hoping for something more organic in the Bay Area. Wires are nice but people are nicer.
